My name is Motoko Lewis and I draw.

Artist Biography

While having been influenced by the Western films and music she watched and listened as a child growing up in Japan, she nonetheless has never forgotten the debt she feels she owes to her brief encounter with Japanese calligraphy in shaping her artistic ethos, a skill that eventually led to her earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking and figurative drawing from Western Washington University. A two-decade absence from creating artwork was filled with her activities involving canine and small animal massage as well as Reiki.  But Motoko has started to draw again.

Motoko feels that her true language is drawing and likes to draw from live sources whenever possible.  She believes that emotion reveals itself from the lines and smudges, creating an atmosphere beyond the paper.

Her works include “Stand” which can be displayed in the 2023 Exhibition “All You Need is Love” at Gallery Syre in Bellingham, Washington.  Another two of her works are presented in “The Heart of Drawing” (Strauss, Michael et al., 2021).  Her portrait drawing received an honorable mention in 2022 Seattle Artist League Portrait Awards.
